WW1 NZEF 2x Brothers KIA medal groups & photos


Medal groups to 2 brothers from Oamaru both killed in action a year apart . All medals correctly impressed to recipients & in VF condition with original ribbon .

 1914/15 star & Victory medal impressed 8/ 108 Pte C.S.Smith NZEF . Charles Spurway Smith a 26 year old farm servant & main body man & first day lander at Gallipoli . Was WIA  Galliploli between 25/4/15 (first day ?) - 28/4/15 in the left foot (GSW) & evacuated off the peninsula . Recooperated in time for the Somme battles , Smith was KIA 22/6/16 , possibly in trench raid ?? as this was a time of intense Trench raiding & patrolling by the NZ Division . A photo of Smith appears in vol 3 of Portraits of the NZEF by Beattie / Pomeroy.

 British war medal & Victory medal impressed 26970 l/cpl WS Smith NZEF . William Spurway Smith a 31 year old wool classer was a 17th reinforcement , with prior service with the Oamaru rifles. Smith was KIA on 4/10/17 at the battle of Broodseinde , a successful engagement for the NZ division , one week out from the battle of Passhendaele NZs bloodiest day. Comes with picture of  Smith with other Kiwi soldier , 1 x photo of Smith , hand annotated KIA to back photo & framed copy of same & official photo of Smiths grave .
