WW1 NZEF 1914/15 star medal WIA Somme FP No2 Akaroa Brocherie



1914/15 Star correctly impressed  7/1700  Tpr PL Brocherie NZEF . Born in Akaroa 1890 , Patrick Lawrence Brocherie was a farmer form French Farm Akaroa . Wounded in action ( Shrapnel right shoulder on 21/9/16 (First Somme) , it appears Brocherie was involved with the desperate action on the 21/9/16 where Captain F Starnes was recommended for the Victoria Cross ( downgraded to DSO) .The intense hand to hand bombing & bayonet work by the Canterbury men under the superb leadership of Starnes regained Goose alley from a determined enemy . At least 300 enemy dead were counted around the trenches .Brocherie was in 1919 sentenced for 10 days Field Punishment NO2 for overstaying leave in Paris . Nice medal to one of Canterburys founding families. Medal VF.
