Ultra rare group to a New Zealander who qualified for 1914 star . Maurice Heaton O'Rorke was born in New Zealand in 1894 . Educated at Wanganui collegiate 1908-1911 with his brother ( Major D .Clifford O'Rorke MC ,M.I.D Kings Royal rifles ,several times WIA , gassed K.I.A march 1918 ). Maurice Heaton O'Rorke was studing at prestigious Oxford University when WW1 broke out & was Commisioned 2nd Lt with the 15th lancers LG 25/8/1914 . 3x wounded in action , the last time severly wounded in the head , which put paid to his war. MH O'Rorke was mentioned in despatches & subsequently awarded the Military Cross for gallantry whilst severly wounded.Possible service WW2 NZ as a Major with the Canterbury Yeomanry Cavalry . O'Rorke came from a distinguised family background , his mother a " Heaton Rhodes" & his father E.D O'Rorke who served with a remount unit during the war ( killed in horse accident 1919 ) was the son of famous Auckland MP Sir Maurice O'Rorke ( Auckland university halls of residence named after him) . Military cross original (unnamed as issued) ,original war office Military cross citation & dog tag named to; Lt MH O'Rorke 12th lancers . 1914 star , BWM & VM original unamed replacements (not name erased) .
