WW1 NZEF medal group of two brothers K.I.A (Passchendaele) - McIlroy
Description
Scarce family medal group to brothers killed in action on "New Zealand's bloodiest day" 12/10/1917 , Passchendaele. BWM & Victory medal to: Lt Thomas Mcilroy & BWM to Cpl Arthur Harold Mcilroy both hailing from Kumara West Coast. Both 17th reinforcements . Medals correctly impressed ; Victory medal 24311 Lieut GTMcilroy & BWM to 17807 Cpl AH Mcilroy . Lt Mcilroy had prewar territorial service in Greymouth & was a Nelson Collegiate oldboy ( see WW1 Nelson Collegiate Active service booklet). Cpl Mcilroy born Kumara 25/11/17 (24 when KIA) & a grocer at the family business. Interestingly his denomination is listed as "Episcopalian". These brothers were one of 18 sets of NZ brothers to die on the same day in WW1 & one of 6 sets of 12/10/17 at Passchendaele.
